About this tool

This calculator tracks how much GI Bill entitlement a student has left and how fast the current term will use it. Select the benefit chapter (Chapter 33, 30, and 1606 default to 36 months, Chapter 35 to 45, Chapter 31 to 48), enter months already used, the current training time rate, and the term length. It returns remaining entitlement, the months this term will consume (term length multiplied by the training time rate), the balance after the term, a percent-used progress bar, and an optional countdown to the delimiting date.

School Certifying Officials use it during enrollment counseling and before certifying a term, especially for students nearing exhaustion. The tool flags a warning when benefits will run out mid-term and a notice when fewer than four months remain, which is the moment to start a funding conversation with the student.

Tips: pull the months-used figure from the student's current VA award data rather than estimating; remember that part-time enrollment stretches entitlement, so a half-time term charges only half the months; and recheck after any training time change, since the burn rate changes with it.
