VASCO Standalone Tool #4 - Calculate institutional matching without database queries
This calculator models a Yellow Ribbon award for a Post-9/11 GI Bill student. Enter annual tuition and fees, the VA maximum benefit for the year, your institution's Yellow Ribbon contribution, and the student's benefit percentage. It computes the VA base tuition payment, the remaining gap, the institution's contribution capped at that gap, the dollar-for-dollar VA match, and the student's final out-of-pocket amount, plus an optional estimate of housing allowance and book stipend, in a printable cost worksheet.
School Certifying Officials use it to build cost estimates for prospective students at private institutions and out-of-state public schools where tuition exceeds the Chapter 33 cap. The Yellow Ribbon program covers tuition above that cap: the school contributes an amount and VA matches it, but only students at the 100 percent benefit tier are eligible.
Tips: confirm the student is at the 100 percent tier before quoting Yellow Ribbon amounts; check your school's Yellow Ribbon agreement for per-student caps and the number of available slots, since both limit what you can offer; and update the VA maximum benefit figure each academic year.
