About this tool

This tool adapts the Eisenhower urgent-important matrix to the workload of a School Certifying Official. It presents a scoring guide that maps urgency and importance to four actions, then a printable four-quadrant matrix: do first (certification deadlines, status changes, compliance issues), schedule (strategic planning, process improvement), delegate (routine emails and calls), and eliminate (busy work). A quick decision table shows worked examples of typical SCO tasks sorted into quadrants.

SCOs use it when the queue is longer than the day, especially at term start and term end. The framework encodes a compliance truth: a status change report has a hard 30-day regulatory deadline, so it always outranks routine correspondence, no matter which email arrived first.

Tips: anything with a VA reporting deadline belongs in quadrant one automatically, so triage those before opening the rest of the inbox; block a recurring weekly hour for quadrant two work like process improvement, because it never becomes urgent until it becomes a finding; and print the matrix and re-sort your task list against it at the start of each week.
