Who is my ELR and when do I call?
Your Education Liaison Representative is your main VA contact for training, access, and hard certification questions. Here is when to reach out.
Your Education Liaison Representative (ELR) is the VA staff member assigned to support schools in your area. They handle SCO training questions, Enrollment Manager access, and guidance on unusual certification scenarios. If you do not know who yours is, search for "VA Education Liaison Representative" plus your state, or ask a colleague at a nearby school.
When I contact my ELR
- Setting up access for myself or a new certifying official.
- A certification has sat in pending status well beyond normal processing time.
- A scenario I have not seen before, such as an unusual program structure or a conversion question.
- Questions about our facility codes or which campuses a designation covers.
- Anything related to an upcoming compliance survey.
When I reach out, I include the student's VA file number, the term dates, what I certified, and exactly what I am unsure about. A precise question gets a precise answer. For system outages or login problems, use the Enrollment Manager help channels rather than your ELR.
