A Targeted Risk-Based Review (TRR) is a narrower look at one risk area, rather than a full review of your whole program. It is triggered when risk scoring flags something unusual in your school's certification patterns. It can happen remotely or on site.
Common triggers
- A spike in late certifications.
- A high rate of amendments.
- Housing allowance patterns that look unusual compared with peer schools.
- Complaints filed through the GI Bill Feedback System.
- Mismatches between what you certify and the SAA's program approval list.
Nearly every trigger on that list traces back to timing and accuracy. In my office, we track certification turnaround and amendment counts each term. If either jumps, I want to know why before anyone else asks. Usually the cause is simple, like a late roster from the registrar or a new program with an unfamiliar schedule, and fixing the process fixes the numbers.
